To mark four decades since the Nintendo Entertainment System reshaped home gaming, 8BitDo has unveiled its NES40 collection. The lineup includes an NES-inspired version of its Ultimate 2 controller, a redesigned Retro 68 keyboard, and a matching wireless speaker.
The Ultimate 2 N40 controller mirrors the original NES color palette of gray, black, and red. It ships with a charging dock, four joystick caps, and printed grip designs listing the release years of classic Nintendo consoles. The controller retains its advanced hardware—Hall effect triggers, RGB joystick rings, and compatibility with Switch, Switch 2, and Windows. Each unit includes a 2.4GHz adapter for fast wireless play and a Retro Receiver that connects directly to an original NES. Only 1,985 units will be made, priced at $79.99, and release is set for November 15, 2025.
The Retro 68 Keyboard N40 Edition replaces the previous 87-key model with a more compact 68-key design built entirely from aluminum. It now uses Box Ice Cream Pro Max linear switches for smoother keystrokes and offers up to 300 hours of use thanks to a 6,500mAh battery. The keyboard also features wireless Super Buttons that replace the earlier tethered setup. At 2.2 kilograms and $499.99, it’s a heavy-duty premium model expected to ship in January 2026.
The final piece is the Retro Cube 2 Speaker N Edition. Styled after the NES, it features dual stereo drivers, a built-in mic, Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless connectivity, and a wireless charging dock. It delivers up to 30 hours of playback on a single charge. The speaker launches December 2025 for $49.99.
8BitDo’s collection blends nostalgia with modern precision. The controller targets collectors, the keyboard appeals to enthusiasts, and the speaker offers casual fans a piece of functional retro design. With limited production runs and upgraded features, the NES40 lineup cements 8BitDo’s reputation for merging old-school style with new-school performance.
