8BitDo has officially launched its next-gen gaming pad, the Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad, a successor to the Pro 2. This model brings major improvements—including swappable ABXY face buttons, Drift-resistant TMR joysticks, and Hall-effect trigger sensors—while retaining the familiar symmetrical layout akin to PlayStation controllers. It debuted at $69.99 and starts shipping from August 12, 2025, with preorders open now. A UK release is expected on October 10.

One of the Pro 3’s standout traits is its magnetic ABXY button system. Users can easily swap button positioning from Xbox to Switch layout, without taking the controller apart.

Under the hood, the new TMR (Tunnel Magnetoresistance) joysticks offer improved precision, higher sensitivity, and reduced drift compared to previous Hall-effect versions. The triggers use Hall-effect sensors and include toggle switches that let users choose between long, linear throws for racing and shorter, tactile clicks for fast-paced gameplay.

Customization gets even deeper with programmable features. The controller adds tiny L4 and R4 shoulder buttons and includes four remappable rear buttons, all configurable via 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software V2. Players can store and switch among three custom profiles on the fly.

A built-in 1,000 mAh rechargeable battery provides up to 20 hours of gameplay. The Pro 3 supports USB charging while playing, and ships with a charging dock that houses a 2.4 GHz dongle for low-latency wireless connections.

Design options also showcase 8BitDo’s retro appeal. The Pro 3 arrives in three nods to classic consoles: Gray (PlayStation), G Classic (Game Boy), and Purple (GameCube). A charging dock, two ball-top joystick caps, and optional joystick modules round out the package.

The controller offers extensive compatibility, connecting via Bluetooth, USB, or 2.4 GHz wireless to platforms such as Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Windows, macOS, SteamOS, Android, and Apple devices.
