Nintendo hosted a packed one-hour Direct presentation today, with a strong emphasis on celebrating Super Mario Bros.’ 40th anniversary and unveiling several high-profile game titles. Below are all of the major announcements!
Mario’s 40th Anniversary Celebration
Shigeru Miyamoto opened the presentation by outlining Nintendo’s plans to mark Mario’s 40th year. Fans can look forward to a new exhibit at Nintendo’s Kyoto museum, themed events, and a third section for the Super Mario theme park. The highlight announcement was The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the sequel to the successful 2023 film. All main voice actors will return, including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson. Digital Trends
Galaxy Classics Return
To coincide with the movie, Nintendo confirmed Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be bundled for release on October 2, 2025, for both Switch and Switch 2. This bundle will be offered in physical and digital formats. Amiibo figures and an illustrated storybook edition of Rosalina’s story will also be available in early 2026. GamingTrend+1
Mario Tennis Fever
Mario Tennis Fever was unveiled for Switch 2, arriving February 12, 2026. The game features new “Fever Rackets,” 38 characters, and multiple modes including tournament, challenge, Mix It Up, online, and ranked. There is also an Adventure mode where characters face monsters on the court. Digital Trends
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
Nintendo showed a new title, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, described as a storybook-inspired platformer in the visual style of Yoshi’s Island and Yoshi Story. It will launch in Spring 2026 on Switch 2.
Hades 2 Release Date
Hades 2 is now leaving early access and hitting version 1.0 on September 25, 2025. It will release on both Switch and Switch 2.
Resident Evil on Switch 2
Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) will be available on Switch 2 starting February 27, 2026. On the same day, ports of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – Gold Edition and Resident Evil Village – Gold Edition will launch as well.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
A new entry, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, was announced for Switch 2 with a target release year of 2026. The game features turn-based tactical combat and social or character story elements.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Switch 2 Edition
The Super Mario Bros. Wonder Switch 2 Edition is happening, with new cooperative and competitive plaza mode content and additional gameplay details promised before its Spring 2026 release.
Other Game Reveals
A quick look was given at Pokémon Legends: Z-A, due October 16.
Storm Lancers (co-op roguelike action) is available today.
PowerWash Simulator 2 is coming to Switch 2 in fall, with new locations.
Suika Game Planet, a fruit-matching puzzler, will launch this winter on both Switch consoles.
Donkey Kong Bananza adds DK Island with challenges and cosmetics, available from today.
Pokémon Pokopia, a life-simulation spin-off starring Ditto, will release in 2026.
