ABC’s late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be back on air Tuesday, after being suspended earlier in the week, the Walt Disney Company announced. The show was pulled following controversy over comments Kimmel made regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

In its statement, Disney said:

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

The late-night program was pulled last week after Kimmel’s comments drew backlash from affiliates and criticism from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr. The controversy stemmed from Kimmel’s monologue in which he criticized political responses to Kirk’s death. While Disney acknowledged that his remarks were “ill-timed and insensitive,” the network emphasized its commitment to balancing free expression with sensitivity to national events.

The suspension marked a rare pause for one of late-night TV’s longest-running programs. With the show’s return, all eyes will be on how Kimmel addresses the controversy in his opening monologue.
