NBC has pulled the plug on Snoop Dogg’s planned New Year’s Eve television special, which was set to broadcast live from Miami on December 31. The event, originally announced earlier this year, promised performances, celebrity guests, and what the network described as a “party like no other.”
In a statement shared by NBC, Snoop said, “Sometimes the calendar gets in the way of the celebration, which is why my NBC family and I decided this winter was time for us all to focus on the Olympics. But don’t worry, we’ll party together bigger and better later in 2026. Ya dig.”
The decision reportedly stems from NBC’s renewed focus on preparing for its 2026 Winter Olympics coverage in Milan-Cortina. Network executives opted to shift production resources to early promotional efforts for the Games, which are expected to dominate NBC’s programming throughout the season.
Snoop’s partnership with NBCUniversal remains intact. He is set to serve as a special correspondent during the Winter Olympics and will also return as a coach on The Voice in 2026. The New Year’s Eve special was part of a multi-year collaboration with the network, intended to expand his presence across both entertainment and sports programming.
The show’s cancellation leaves NBC without a major New Year’s Eve broadcast for the upcoming holiday, as ABC continues its long-running Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and CBS maintains its country-themed New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash. NBC has not yet confirmed what will air in that timeslot, though insiders suggest the network will lean on reruns or preview content for its Olympic coverage.
While fans were disappointed, Snoop’s statement hinted that the special may return in a different form later next year. “I’m all about celebrating life and keeping the party going,” he said earlier this fall. “If it’s not this year, we’ll just make it twice as big when the time is right.”
For now, Snoop Dogg’s focus will remain on the studio, The Voice, and his upcoming work with NBC Sports. And as he puts it, “the party’s never really canceled, it’s just rescheduled.”
