The live-action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed is moving forward at Netflix with Australian actor Toby Wallace stepping into a lead role. The series, developed in partnership with publisher Ubisoft, is described as a high-octane thriller focused on the secret war between two rival factions: one striving for control of humanity’s future, the other fighting to preserve free will.
Wallace, best known for his performances in Babyteeth and the television series The Society, will take on a series-regular role in the project, though the character name has not yet been publicly revealed. This casting marks the first major announced player in the long-gestating adaptation.
The showrunners tapped to steer the series are Roberto Patino (known for Westworld and DMZ) and David Wiener (whose credits include Halo). They’ve said the series will carry the thematic DNA of the game franchise, exploring branching timelines, moral conflict and epic historical settings.
Production details remain limited at the moment, including its release date and full cast list. But with fresh momentum from Wallace’s casting and the backing of Netflix-Ubisoft’s long-term collaboration, anticipation is high for this next chapter in the Assassin’s Creed universe.
