Amazon has announced a December 10, 2025 release date for its new lineup of Kindle Scribe Colorsoft and updated Kindle Scribe models. The Colorsoft version will retail at $629.99, while the standard Scribe with front-lighting will cost $499.99. A more affordable light-less Scribe ($429.99) is expected to arrive sometime in 2026. This is according to Amazon Spokesperson Rachel Erickson who first reported the news to The Verge.

The new devices come with a larger 11-inch glare-free screen, a slim profile at just 5.4 mm thick, and weigh roughly 400 grams. Amazon says they improved writing performance and page turns, thanks to a new quad-core processor and a redesigned display stack that replaces the older asymmetric bezel with a balanced, flush-front layout.

For the Colorsoft model, Amazon delivered their first full-color E-Ink display on a Scribe, built to show color without eye-straining brightness. The display pairs with a texture-molded glass surface that gives the stylus pen a more natural, paper-like feel. Thanks to that surface and a new rendering engine, writing, drawing, and annotations—including shading and highlights—should feel smooth. The pen arrives in the box and connects magnetically.

Amazon also updated the software for both devices. The home screen and workspace layout changed to help you manage books, notes, and documents more easily. New integrations let you store notes and documents in Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, making file access easier across devices. Built-in AI features add value: you can pull up a “Story So Far” summary to catch up on a book, or use “Ask This Book” to pose questions about a passage (for example, motives or themes in a novel) without worrying about spoilers.

Writing and drawing modes on the Colorsoft let you choose among 10 pen colors and 5 highlighter shades. The device supports smooth shading and gradients, giving new potential to artists or note-takers who want visual flexibility beyond monochrome text.

Amazon positions these new models as all-in-one reading and note-taking tools: e-reader, journal, sketchbook and document annotator in a single device. By combining large-screen reading, color support, and stylus input with cloud sync and AI-powered note tools, the new Scribe models aim to serve readers, students, professionals, and creatives alike.
