Apple today debuted its first laptop powered by the new M5 chip. The 14-inch MacBook Pro keeps the same $1,599 starting price but introduces major upgrades in performance, storage, and efficiency without altering the familiar design.

The laptop features Apple’s M5 chip with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says AI tasks now run up to 3.5 times faster compared to the previous M4 generation. Graphics performance improves by about 1.6 times, and multithreaded CPU performance increases around 20 percent. Memory bandwidth rises to 153 GB/s from 120 GB/s, offering a clear boost for demanding applications.

Storage capacity now reaches up to 4 TB of SSD space, a configuration previously reserved for higher-end models. The base option remains 16 GB of unified memory and 512 GB of SSD storage. Apple also states that storage speeds have improved across all configurations.

Battery life remains listed at up to 24 hours of mixed use, with no external design changes. The 14-inch MacBook Pro still includes three Thunderbolt ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, a headphone jack, and MagSafe charging.

Preorders opened on October 15, 2025, with shipping beginning October 22, 2025. The $1,599 price point remains unchanged in the United States.

By introducing the M5 in the 14-inch model first, Apple targets professionals and creators who need high performance without a redesign. The strategy signals confidence in its current design language while emphasizing power and speed improvements inside.

The update also positions Apple strongly in the AI-focused computing market, where processing power and efficiency define competitiveness.
