Floyd Roger Myers Jr., best known for portraying a young version of Will Smith on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has died. He was 42.
According to his mother, Renee Trice, Myers passed away at his home in Maryland on October 29 after suffering a heart attack. She shared that it was his fourth in three years. He leaves behind four children.
Myers’ breakout came in 1992 when he appeared in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air episode “Will Gets Committed,” where he played a young Will in flashback scenes. That same year, he took on another high-profile role as young Marlon Jackson in the hit miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream. Those back-to-back performances made him a familiar face to TV audiences in the early 1990s.
After stepping away from acting, Myers dedicated much of his adult life to helping others. He co-founded the nonprofit Fellaship Men’s Group, an organization focused on men’s mental health and mentorship. Friends and family described him as someone who turned his early fame into purpose, working quietly to support others through counseling and community programs.
“My son was a light to so many,” his mother said. “Even after all he’d been through, he still had a heart for helping people.”
Tributes have poured in from fans and former colleagues who remembered Myers as warm, funny, and deeply kind. Actor Tatyana Ali, who starred alongside Will Smith in Fresh Prince, shared a short tribute online saying, “Rest peacefully, Floyd. You’ll always be part of our story.”
Though his time in Hollywood was brief, Myers left a lasting impression on those who worked with him and the people he mentored in later years. His sister, Jasmine Myers, called him “a devoted father, a loving brother, and a true friend who made everyone feel seen.”
Funeral arrangements are being planned in Maryland, with family members asking for privacy while honoring his memory.
All of us at Fluorescent Media extend our deepest condolences to Floyd Roger Myers Jr.’s family, friends, and the communities he inspired. His early work touched a generation of viewers, and his dedication to helping others will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
