Sucker Punch Productions has confirmed that Ghost of Yōtei will launch worldwide on October 2nd, 2025, with launch times that vary by region. In the United States, the game unlocks at 9 PM Pacific / 11 PM Central on October 1st, while other territories can access it at midnight local time.

The game is a PlayStation 5 exclusive and acts as a follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima. It takes place around three centuries later, placing players in Ezo (modern Hokkaidō) where they control Atsu, a mercenary whose family was killed by a group known as the “Yōtei Six.” Players will be able to hunt those targets in any order across the open-world setting.

Day-One Patch and Technical Updates

At launch, Ghost of Yōtei will ship with a hefty day-one patch. The patch notes cover performance stability, UI/UX tweaks, animation fixes, and environmental improvements. One notable change is a reduction of puzzle hints on higher difficulty settings, apparently to avoid oversimplifying challenges.

Other updates include refinements to onsens (hot spring areas), adjustments to horse behavior to avoid interrupting missions, and better customization features for photo mode.

Multiplayer Mode on the Horizon

Sucker Punch also confirmed that a free Legends mode will arrive in 2026. This multiplayer expansion will include two-player story missions and four-player survival encounters. Players will face demonic versions of the Yōtei Six alongside new supernatural enemies.

Development & Milestones

Before its release, Ghost of Yōtei went gold, signaling its readiness for production. To celebrate, Sucker Punch released a short gameplay teaser featuring stylized gun-and-sword combat evocative of cinematic “gun fu.”

The game was first announced during PlayStation’s State of Play event in September 2024. In June 2025, the studio confirmed a gameplay deep dive would follow that July.
