The legendary Halo franchise is officially getting a full-scale remake. Halo: Campaign Evolved, a modern reimagining of the 2001 classic Halo: Combat Evolved, is set to release in 2026 for Xbox Series X and S, PC, and, for the first time ever, PlayStation 5.
This marks a historic milestone for the series, expanding beyond Xbox and welcoming an entirely new audience. The remake will feature modern visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, while preserving the core mechanics that made the original so influential.
A Modern Take on a Classic
The developers describe Halo: Campaign Evolved as a ground-up rebuild designed to feel familiar yet fresh. It blends original assets with next-generation rendering, improved physics, and enhanced animation. Players can expect full 4K support, richer environmental detail, and re-recorded dialogue featuring much of the returning voice cast.
New content includes three prequel missions that bridge early parts of the story, nine additional weapons inspired by later Halo entries, and updated gameplay mechanics such as sprinting, vehicle hijacking, and aim-down-sights on all guns. The campaign can be experienced solo or cooperatively, with four-player online cross-platform play and two-player split-screen available on consoles.
Unlike past remakes, this release focuses exclusively on the single-player experience. Multiplayer fans will have to wait for future updates or standalone projects.
Expanding Halo’s Reach
The move to bring Halo to PlayStation is one of Microsoft’s most significant shifts in recent years. According to Halo Studios executives, the decision reflects a belief that Halo’s universe deserves to be shared with more players worldwide.
“The campaign has been rebuilt to feel handcrafted and immersive, true to what players remember, not just visually, but emotionally,” said Damon Conn, Executive Producer at Halo Studios.
Community Director Brian Jarrard echoed that sentiment, calling this “a new era of Halo,” where accessibility and legacy can coexist.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will launch day one on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, with full cross-play and cross-progression between platforms. Early previews suggest the remake aims to balance nostalgia with modernization—reviving the emotional weight of the original while evolving it for a new generation.
Whether you played the first Halo two decades ago or are picking it up for the first time, the 2026 remake looks ready to deliver one of gaming’s most iconic stories with renewed energy and modern precision.
