HMD has officially launched the Touch 4G, calling it the first device in a new “hybrid phone” category designed to bridge the gap between feature phones and smartphones. The compact device is now available in India and is aimed at users who want touchscreen access and modern connectivity without the cost or complexity of a full smartphone.
Priced at ₹4,999, the HMD Touch 4G features a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 2 MP rear camera, and a VGA front camera for video calls. Weighing only 100 grams, the phone is lightweight and pocket-friendly. It operates on HMD’s S30+ Touch platform, not Android, which means it runs cloud-based applications instead of downloadable apps. Users can access essential functions like news, video streaming, social media, and weather updates directly through the browser.
The device introduces Express Chat, a messaging and video-calling app built into the system. Express Chat supports 13 Indian languages and allows users to connect across Android and iOS devices. The Touch 4G also includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a hotspot feature, wired and wireless FM radio, MP3 playback, and call recording with an organized folder system.
HMD added an ICE (In Case of Emergency) key for quick access to emergency contacts. Pressing it three times or holding it triggers a pre-set emergency alert, a feature designed for safety and accessibility.
To make the device practical for first-time digital users, HMD includes a one-year replacement guarantee, a fast charger, and a protective jelly case in the box. The phone offers 128 MB of internal storage and supports microSD cards for additional space. It charges through USB-C and includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Color options include Cyan and Dark Blue, and the phone will be available through HMD’s online store, major e-commerce platforms, and local retailers starting October 9th.
HMD describes the Touch 4G as part of its mission to promote digital inclusion. The company said that millions of people in India still rely on feature phones and lack access to affordable internet devices. The Touch 4G gives these users an accessible way to experience online communication, content, and apps in a secure and affordable format.
Ravi Kunwar, Vice President and India CEO at HMD, stated, “The Touch 4G represents a new category for us. It is not just a product but a step toward connecting millions of digital newcomers. We want to give users an experience that feels modern yet remains simple and reliable.”
With its combination of basic smart features, 4G connectivity, and a simplified design, the HMD Touch 4G aims to fill a unique space between traditional phones and entry-level smartphones.
