On August 21st, 2025, Montero Lamar Hill (stage name Lil Nas X) was arrested in Studio City, Los Angeles. Police say he was found walking approximately around Ventura Boulevard wearing only his underwear and a pair of cowboy boots. The Los Angeles Police Department took him into custody after he allegedly charged at officers who confronted him. Shortly before the arrest, he was hospitalized for what was believed to be a possible overdose.
Four felony charges have been filed against him: three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. He entered a plea of not guilty in court. Bail was set at $75,000. As a condition of release, he’s required to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week.
Inpatient Treatment & Legal Status
At a pretrial hearing on September 15th, 2025 Lil Nas X’s attorneys confirmed that he is now in inpatient treatment at an undisclosed facility outside California. The court adjusted his release conditions: he may remain out of state provided he continues his treatment program. If his status changes to outpatient, the court will revisit those conditions.
He could face up to five years in prison if convicted of the charges, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.
Family, Reactions, & Denials
Lil Nas X’s father, Robert Stafford, has spoken publicly about the incident. He put forward that the pressure fame has brought on his son played a role in what happened, saying that Montero is remorseful and needs people’s grace and support during this time.
His lawyer, Christy O’Connor, denied that drug use was involved in the altercation. She described the behavior as an aberration, saying nothing like this has ever happened before in his life.
In a message on Instagram following his release, Lil Nas X posted: “Your girl is gonna be okay, boo. Okay? … That was terrifying. … But your girl is gonna be alright.”
This incident comes against a backdrop of earlier health concerns for the artist. In April 2025, Lil Nas X shared that he was hospitalized with partial facial paralysis. This and recent social media behavior, including cryptic posts and deletion of prior posts, had already raised questions among fans about his well-being.
