Nintendo used today’s Nintendo Direct to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., unveiling a lineup of new games, remasters, and even a film to mark the milestone.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

The highlight announcement was a new animated film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, slated to release on April 3, 2026. Returning cast members include Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek). The film will follow themes from the beloved Super Mario Galaxy games and serve as the centerpiece of Nintendo’s anniversary celebrations.

Galaxy Bundle for Switch and Switch 2

Nintendo also revealed a bundle containing Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, launching on October 2, 2025 for both Switch and Switch 2. Fans can look forward to new Amiibo figures tied to the release, which will arrive on February 4, 2026.

New Mario Titles for Switch 2

The anniversary spotlight included several new Mario adventures:

  • Mario Tennis Fever (launching February 12, 2026) introduces special “fever rackets” with unique gameplay effects.
  • Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, a brand-new side adventure, is planned for Spring 2026.
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Switch 2 Edition) will debut with a fresh DLC expansion titled “Meet Up in Bellabel Park”, also set for Spring 2026.

Anniversary Events and Extras

Nintendo confirmed additional anniversary celebrations, including special Mario-themed exhibits at the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, which will feature artwork, light shows, and interactive installations throughout 2026.
