Nintendo is giving fans a cosmic preview this week. The first full trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will premiere during a special Nintendo Direct this Wednesday, November 12, at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET on YouTube and the Nintendo Today app. The presentation will focus entirely on the movie, with no new game updates planned.
Nintendo confirmed the news on X, posting, “Join us on Wednesday, Nov 12, at 6 a.m. PT for the Nintendo Direct featuring the world premiere of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie official trailer. Please note that no game information will be included in this presentation.” The announcement quickly gained traction, with fans flooding the comments to speculate about new characters, music, and the possibility of space-themed cameos.
The sequel builds on the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which became one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time after its 2023 release. This follow-up shifts the setting far beyond the Mushroom Kingdom, drawing inspiration from the 2007 game Super Mario Galaxy. Expect to see Mario and friends navigating entire planets, zero-gravity environments, and plenty of familiar cosmic details that made the original game so memorable.
The returning cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back, alongside writer Matthew Fogel and producer Chris Meledandri from Illumination.
Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that production is in its final stages. “The setting for the next movie is, just as the title says, the galaxy — that’s all I can really say,” he said. “We’re in the final stages of production now, but I think it’s going to be fun. I usually just say, ‘I’ll keep working on it until it becomes fun,’ so that alone should tell you how confident I am.”
The trailer will likely reveal the movie’s first big story hints, visual tone, and how closely it ties to the Galaxy games. Fans are also watching for any new character reveals and a glimpse of the orchestral sound that defined the original game’s score.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases in theaters on April 3, 2026. Nintendo’s upcoming Direct will set the stage for what could become its next billion-dollar franchise chapter.
