The music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is projected to be released from federal prison on May 8, 2028, according to records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He is serving a 50-month sentence after being convicted on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution.
Combs, aged 55, has already spent more than a year in detention since his arrest in September 2024. His sentence in October caused the projected release date to include time served. The possible early release is tied to “good conduct time” under federal guidelines, which could reduce the effective prison term.
Although prosecutors had sought a sentence longer than 10 years following his conviction on the Mann Act charges, Combs was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. The judge sentenced him to just over four years in prison and fined him $500,000, with an additional five years of supervised release to follow.
Combs’ legal team has indicated intentions to appeal both the conviction and sentence. They have also requested his assignment to a lower-security facility in New Jersey that offers a drug-abuse treatment program, which may further reduce his sentence if he is admitted and completes it.
The projected May 2028 date does not guarantee release at that time. It is contingent on good behavior, any successful appeal outcomes, and potential participation in qualifying rehabilitation programs. For now, Combs remains incarcerated pending assignment to a federal prison facility.
