The long-awaited series finale of Stranger Things will reach fans on December 31, 2025, with a simultaneous release in theaters and on Netflix. The two-hour episode, titled The Rightside Up, will screen in more than 350 theaters across the United States and Canada while debuting globally on Netflix at 5 p.m. PT (8 p.m. ET).
Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer said they wanted the finale to feel like an event worthy of the years fans have invested. They described the decision to bring it to theaters as a way to celebrate the story and the audience together, offering the finale as a shared experience rather than just a streaming drop.
Season 5 will unfold in three volumes before the finale’s theatrical launch. Volume 1, featuring four episodes, arrives November 26. Volume 2, with three episodes, follows on December 25. The final episode, The Rightside Up, completes the saga on New Year’s Eve.
This marks the first time in Netflix’s history that a series episode will premiere both in theaters and on the streaming platform at the same time. The move highlights Netflix’s continued push to turn major releases into cultural moments that go beyond at-home viewing.
The theatrical release will give fans the chance to see Hawkins, Eleven, and the Upside Down on the big screen with premium sound and visuals, alongside other devoted viewers. The event-style rollout mirrors the scope and emotion the Duffers have promised for the conclusion, bringing the show’s blend of nostalgia, heart, and suspense to an even bigger stage.
With its theatrical debut, Stranger Things is set to close out one of television’s most celebrated runs in cinematic fashion. Fans can expect the finale to serve as both a conclusion to the characters’ journeys and a final nod to the spirit of adventure that made the series a worldwide phenomenon.
