TikTok is introducing a new feature called Nearby Feed in select European countries. The feature shows users videos created by people in their surrounding area. It is designed to help people find local restaurants, events, activities, and creators. The first rollout includes users in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Germany.
When a user has access to Nearby Feed, a new tab appears at the top of the home screen. The tab shows the user’s general region rather than the word Nearby. TikTok selects videos based on three factors that include approximate location, personal viewing habits, and how recently a video was posted. A person who often watches food or travel videos will likely see nearby restaurants, events, or attractions.
Creators can reach local viewers if they tag a location or business in their videos. TikTok may also surface videos even when the creator does not add a tag if the app can determine their region. Users must be at least 18 years old and logged in to see the feature. Videos from private accounts, videos set to Friends or Only You, content posted by creators under 18, and videos older than 90 days do not appear in Nearby.
TikTok said the goal is to help people discover and connect with content that reflects the community they live in. In their blog post they said, “Whether you are looking for a new restaurant close to home or a new place to explore during your next trip, the Nearby Feed makes it easy to discover and connect with local content, creators, and businesses wherever you are.” TikTok also said it will give users an option to share more precise location information when using the feature, but the setting is optional and only active when the app is in use.
Users can switch the region manually if they want to explore different areas. This can help when traveling or when planning a future trip. TikTok believes the feature will support local creators and small businesses by putting them in front of people who live nearby. That could lead to more real world visits and stronger community engagement.
TikTok has not shared when or if Nearby Feed will expand beyond the first launch countries. The company has not confirmed details about accuracy, update frequency, or global availability. Content variety may also depend on how many creators in each region make videos that fit the feature. For now the feature remains limited, but it introduces a new way for people to discover what is happening around them through TikTok itself.
